2008 NIKI Trip to Iran

I was invited as part of a strong scientific faculty encompassing surgeons, scientists and doctors (ranging from Professors to Lecturers) involved in healthcare in their native counties that included Norway, France, Germany, United States of America and the United Kingdom.

Prior to the trip the organization by Dr Alireza Haghighi (co founder of NIKI) ensured the trip to be fruitful and an awarding experience for myself with bridges being formed with colleagues in Iran.

The Academic meeting itself was over a two-week period with conferences, lecturing and training organized in Academic Universities in Tehran, Tabriz and Arak.

Each day was crammed with educational activity and in fact every effort was made to identify each faculty members Iranian counterpart, once this was achieved bespoke meeting and involvement in operating was performed.

Lectures and scientific meetings were given at three universities of Medical Sciences at Shahid Beheshti, Arak and Tabriz.

At the latter university with my Royal College Of Surgeons (RCS) of England faculty member colleagues that included Professor Mike Larvin (University Of Nottingham), Professor Steve Nixon University of Edinburgh and Miss Pari-Naz Mohanna (St Thomas’ Hospital, London), we conducted a RCS course surgical workshop for surgical trainees within the universities’ well equipped skills laboratory.
